This will be a night to remember for both artists and audience as these amazingly talented young women show their gift of song, voice, and instrumental prowess. Classically trained on violin, guitar, cello, and voice since early childhood, the Von Grey sisters now range in age from 10 years old to 15. Annika is the 2nd oldest, and winner of the top prize in 2008 for the U.S. 12-and-under Irish fiddler's competition. Since then the harmony driven quartet has also shared the stage with The Chieftains and Sarah McLachlan, and was recognized in December of '09 as 'Atlanta's Best' emerging artists by Atlanta Magazine! Advance recommendations are highly recommended!

Callaghan

Saturday, December 3 ~ 8;00 - 10;00+

$16 Advance Reservations / $18 Day of Show

Following her own hit shows in March and July (and a sold out show at Eddies Attic in June), we are delighted to welcome top UK folk-pop singer-songwriter, Callaghan, back to The Crimson Moon Cafe!

www.CallaghanInfo.com

In the summer of 2010 this British singer-songwriter packed up her life in London and moved to Atlanta to pursue her musical ambitions and work with one of her musical heroes, Shawn Mullins. Mullins was so struck with her talent that he agreed to produce her first album, "Life in Full Colour", which launched in May. Her music blends Folk, Americana and Pop with rich, haunting vocals that have been compared to Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones and Emmy Lou Harris. Mullins says simply that "she is one of the greatest unsigned talents I've ever heard... the world needs more singer-songwriters like Callaghan!"

Callaghan began her musical career at the age of four, while being classically trained on the flute. Her first song, "In Your Arms Again," was written when she was just 14 years old. The song won her an appearance on a BBC TV show for up-and-coming singer-songwriters hosted by well-known Irish singer, Ronan Keating. Her musical style is influenced by artists such as Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, and James Taylor, but it is Callaghan's powerful, yet soothing vocals that take center stage in her songs, floating sweetly and loftily above her fingers on piano and guitar. Since moving to the USA she has played shows and festivals across 20 states, secured TV and Radio appearances, and spent many hours in the studio recording her debut album, Life in Full Colour, produced by Grammy nominee and mentor, Shawn Mullins. The album is set to be released in May 2011. Her headline show at The Crimson Moon Cafe is one of many on a 2011 tour in support of the new album, where she'll also be sharing entertaining stories of her "move to the USA" experiences via her enchantingly beautiful voice.

Mullins says "The world needs more singer-songwriters like Callaghan. She truly shines through as the real deal. Her voice is original and pure and she is one of the greatest unsigned talents I've ever heard." Bob Harris, of BBC Radio 2 in London calls her "beautiful, warm and hugely talented" and says "the reaction to her music on my radio programmes has been fantastic." Soon, she's sure to be signed by a major record label and headed for the "stars... as one more bright beam of the magic found in a nation where dreams really do come true!"

An Intimate Evening with
Michelle Malone

Saturday, December 10 ~ 8;00 - 10;00+

$20 Advance Reservations / $20 Day of Show

Twice Grammy nominated 'Moanin' Malone' returns to ‘The Moon’ playing hard-edged, soulful, southern rocking blues, but THIS time in a rare ‘solo’ show! This will be a ‘living room’ like concert that you don’t want to miss for this two time Grammy nominee blues woman!

www.MichelleMalone.com

Armed with a bottleneck slide, blues harmonica, and her signature gut-wrenching vocals, two time Grammy nominee, Moanin’ Malone (a nickname given to her by BB King after hearing her sing), has shared stages and tours with such blues legends as Johnny Winter, Charlie Musselwhite, Little Feat, ZZ Top, Keb Mo, Marsha Ball and Tinsley Ellis - as well as folk icons Indigo Girls, John Mayer, Steve Earl, Shawn Colvin, Jackson Browne and Joan Osborne. She was beaten to winning a Grammy two years in a row by none other than Eric Clapton, and tonight ’she’ll be playing in a 100 seat venue where she will make it feel like the center of the universe!

Michelle Malone was born in the Deep South and grew up listening to her mother sing in the church choir every Sunday. When it came time to craft her own sound, she took those religious roots, blended in enough rock, folk, and blues to 'satisfy'. The result is, Debris, a high-spirited stripped down blend of rootsy acoustic slide, gritty electric blues and explosive vocals that harkens back to the lost recordings of Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams and The Rolling Stones.
Debris is Michelle's 10th release, and is easily one of her most revealing and emotional discs. Helping her capture the mood is producer Nick Di Dia (Nick has been Brendon O'Brien's engineer for 15 years, and has worked on recordings by Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Train, Matthew Sweet). Malone found herself tackling some serious subject matter while at the same time making that spirited soul-shaking music that she loves. She says, "I have to play these songs every night, so I need them to be fun - I want to have a good time, too."
The names of Michelle Malone's ten albums serve as an autobiography; New Experience, Relentless, For You Not Them, Redemption Dream, Beneath the Devil Moon, Home Grown, Hello Out There, Stompin' Ground, and last year's critically acclaimed Sugarfoot. She has been on dozens of "Best Of" lists and won many awards throughout her career including 4 time best album (Atlanta magazine), 2 time best acoustic guitarist (Creative Loafing, IAC), Best Blues Guitarist (IAC.com), and 5 time female vocalist of the year (Creative Loafing).
Living a paraphrased line by one of her inspirations, Tina Turner, Michelle has never done anything nice and easy. She bit the major label lure and despite promises broken, indulgences extended and excesses expected, Michelle continued creating solid songs, introspective, energetic and impressive forays into bluesy rock as well as tasty pop nuggets. This wealth of material has enabled Malone, to tour and record for over 20 years, averaging over 200 days a year on the road. Michelle's live show is not to be missed--she can make the biggest venues seem as cozy as a campfire, and an intimate venue feel like the center of the universe.

"Why Michelle Malone hasn't knocked the likes of Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt off of their roots-rock and blues pedestals blows the mind. Malone's authentic interpretation of good old Southern rock and hard-edge blues should have her rubbing shoulders with the Allman Brothers and Buddy Guys of the world. Malone's hand-to-mouth, pounding touring might limit her recording schedule, but her last couple of studio releases, Sugarfoot and Stompin' Ground, are rousing and relentless toe-tapping beauties deserving of a boatload of attention." - GEMELLI (The Village Voice, NY, NY)

FRIDAY NIGHT

Jennifer Daniels

Friday, December 16 ~ 8:00 - 10:00+

$14 Advance Reservations / $16 Day of Show

Jennifer Daniels has "... a sound that wanders from alt-country to haunting folk rock delivering her poetry with an urgency to match it's message." - Josh Jackson, Paste Magazine. And she has a Christmas CD!

“Imagine a singer/songwriter whose songs are as lyrically rich, personal and poetic as Joni Mitchell's, while at the same time as ridiculously catchy as Cat Stevens. Now imagine the songs sung by a woman whose voice is sorta like Sarah McLachlan's, only it's both more powerful and more playful." This was Creative Loafing’s take on Jennifer Daniels, who also won Chattanooga’s Creative Loafing’s  readers choice award for ‘Best New Artist’ a few years back. She’s sold out Eddies Attic, so our 100 seats will go fast for this holiday season return of one of the South’s most talented and beautiful songstresses!

SATURDAY NIGHT

SHAWN MULLINS
w/ Mathew Kahler

December 17 & 18 ~ 8;00 - 10;00+

Call 706-864-3982 for Coffee house Tickets

Grammy nominee returns for another ‘sure to sell out’ show to his collegiate stomping grounds to spend  an intimate evening with some of his favorite fans.

www.SHAWNMULLINS.com
     Matthew Kahler

Shawn Mullins is best known for his Grammy®  nominated song, “Lullaby,” that went to Top 10 in ’98 and  propelled his ‘Soul’s Core’ album  to platinum-plus status. However, the reason why we’ll probably be turning folks away from the door at this show again is because Shawn has built a huge fan base in the Atlanta north area in the years since he attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega in the late 90’s. He’s been touring the nation ever since, and recently released his 18th+ album, ‘Light You Up,’ through Vanguard Records. Seriously embedded Atlanta artist, Matthew Kahler, plays regularly with Shawn, a good friend of his, and will most likely be headlining his own show at The Moon in the near future!

This show is a sell out, so seats in the Coffee House will also be available by phone reservation only and only entrees, appetizers, deserts & beverages will be served for this show!

MORE INFO ABOUT SHAWN / THIS EXCITING WEEKEND OF MUSIC:  Exposed to music at an early age by his grandfather, who was a big band player, Mullins began writing songs and producing cassettes in grammar school. After attending North Georgia College in Dahlonega, GA and a stint in the military, he launched his own label in 1991 and hit the singer-songwriter circuit, building a strong following in the Southeast. Seven independent albums later, he released ‘Soul's Core’ on Sony Music in 1998. He signed with Vanguard Records in 2004 and shortly thereafter released 9th Ward Pickin' Parlour, followed by ‘honeydew’, and now, ‘Light You Up’, including three songs co-written by one of the Nashville’s most prolific modern songwriters, Chuck Cannon, who’s become another ‘favorite’ performer at ‘The Moon’.

Shawn’s shows are one of our top-attended shows each year, so we are offering 8 additional ‘bar/pub table’ seats in our Coffee House. We will take down the curtains that normally separate it from the Concert Hall dining area, ‘nix’ espresso drinks during the songs, turn out the lights, turn up the coffee house speaker, and take food from the kitchen through our back porch hall way to make the room more conducive for folks to enjoy the show. The view of the stage is actually better than a number of seats in the concert Hall dining area - and you have a place to dine/put your beverages! These seats are only available by calling in 706.864.3982 or stopping in as they are not on our seating chart on Ticket Fusion.

MORE ABOUT MATTHEW:  Matthew Kahler was born in Albany, Georgia on November 14th, 1959. He was the seventh child of Ralph and Lois Kahler and one of nine children. Everyone in the Kahler family sings, but Matthew was the only one who pursued music as a profession.

Matthew knew from a very early age what it took to be heard, to stand out from the crowd.  The powerful voice he developed out of necessity as a child became the catalyst for his songs, so rich with imagery, beautiful language and unusual phrasing. He picked up the guitar, plays a bit of piano and is famous for his thunderous conga playing, but all these things are simply side items to the main course which has always been his voice.

 www.THEFIDDLEHEADS.net

July 13th 2011 this ‘funky bluegrass’ band of NGCSU students and alumni performed an innovative bluegrass version of ‘Billie Jean’ in front of the cameras for NBC’s America’s Got Talent. Though they were unfortunately voted off that round, a month later they were called back for the ‘wild card’ show by Howie due to a flood of online requests. They didn’t move forward that night, but their popularity took off like a sky rocket carrying founder/mandolin player, Zac McConnell; vocalist Adam Kersh; bassist Trygve Myers;  guitarist and harmonica player, Michael Wallace; and Jake Larios on the banjo. There’s no telling where they will land with a little bit of time and focus on honing their extremely unique style of ‘bluegrass backed pop’ music! We’ll definitely have Coffee House seats available (reserved by phone only) for this sure to be sold out ‘home town’ show!

New Year's Eve Celebration
with The Hobohemians

Saturday, December 31 ~ 9:00 - 12:00+

$17 Advance Reservations / $20 Day of show

The term “Hobohemian” denotes a unique form of Americanized vagabond-style bohemianism which guides the group’s approach towards popular American and European roots music of the 1910’s, 20’s, and 30’s: a potent mix of proto-jazz, blues, and folk.
